homemade board book

river loves reading. gets obsessed with reading actually. so i made him a personalized board book. here is the why and the howriver is an early bird. early to bed and early to rise. thinking back over his young life, he has always been like this. i just havent always been okay with this.
but there isnt much i can do to change him (a lesson that i am sure i will continue learning as he grows up). and on the days during the past few weeks when he has only gotten one nap a day, he wakes up even earlier. sleep leads to more sleep. so when he doesnt sleep well during the day, i know that it means he will be waking before 6am the next morning.
i used to hate our early mornings. hate it hate it hate it. but how i spend that time has changed and now so has my attitude toward it. river is ready to play and so we sit in his room and he makes his rounds. i sit in the comfy rocking chair and write in my journal, read my bible, pray for my sweet husband, for my kids, and for you. and i savor the quiet slow start to the full day. i listen to the dark silent neighborhood. the morning has changed because i changed how i spent it.
my best friend shelly told me that her 3yo twin girls love LOVE love their bibles. her husband pointed out that it is probably because they see their mommy reading hers and kids want to be like their parents. i want river to want to read the bible. and i want him to see me reading the bible, starting off the day with jesus.
and i want him to start the day with jesus, even at his young age! all of this to say, i made him a board book. a personalized book just for him so that he can start off his day with truth from the word of God.

i used a 6pg hand-me-down board book that we didnt read, packing tape, colored paper, golf magazine pages, and photos that i already had. it was a project that i wanted complete in one evening, otherwise you could glue the pages and i am sure it would look alot nicer. but i am not a perfectionist so i dont mind the imperfection of the pages. i used www.biblegateway.com to search for verses that i liked. and the next morning, river cuddled in bed with george and i and read his new book. wonderful...
make one for your child or make one as a gift.
